| Woodbury,
NY—December 2006 - Janine Dion, a passionate
supporter of people and pets alike, has been named Outstanding
Fundraising Volunteer for her efforts on behalf of Pet Peeves,
the not-for-profit animal advocacy organization she founded
four years ago. She was presented with the award on Philanthropy
Day 2006 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
“We are thrilled that Janine has been given this honor,” says
Pet Peeves’ Board Member Laurie Bloom. “She has
worked tirelessly to raise funds on behalf of abused, neglected
and homeless animals, acting as an inspiration to all of us
on the Board with her unfailing energy and commitment.”
Pet Peeves’ annual gala, “Furry Tails Can Come
True,” held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, raised
more than $100,000 from corporate and individual sponsors in
September 2006. Because of this, grants totaling more
than $72,000 were issued to no-kill shelters, rescue groups
and humane and pet therapy programs, including All About Spay
Neuter, For Our Friends, Glen Cove Animal Lover’s League,
Kent Animal Rescue, LI Cat Project, Last Hope, and two LI-based
Pet Therapy programs sponsored by Family Residence Essential
Enterprise (FREE) and United Cerebral Palsy (UCP).
Ms. Dion, who has a 23 year history with Crest Hollow Country
Club leading up to her current position as Sales and Marketing
Director, has used her experience as Event Manager to assist
the numerous non-profits she hosts at Crest Hollow with fundraising
ideas. In 2003, she was presented with the Woman of Distinction
Award and was named LI Elite’s Mentor of the Year for
her noteworthy participation in the LI Mentoring Program. She
was named one of Long Island Business News’ Top 50 Women
in 2004, and was given the Leadership Award by the MS Society.
For her dedication to saving four-legged and winged creatures,
she was recently honored by the Animal Lovers League of Glen
Cove.
Under Janine Dion’s direction Pet Peeves has grown considerably,
attracting a wide array of sponsors, donors, and volunteers who
share her mission. She welcomes local shelters and animal rescue
groups to apply for grants from her organization, and has begun
planning for the “Furry Tails Come True” 2007 gala.
