Two LI Teens to be Honored with Achievement Awards at Pet Peeves’ “Furry Tails Can Come True” Gala

Woodbury, NY – August 2005 - Two pet loving teenagers who have given generously of their time and money to help animals in need will be honored with Student Achievement Awards from Pet Peeves, the “voice of Long Island’s pets.” Eliana Tilles, a resident of Nassau and Monet Lee of Suffolk will accept their awards at Pet Peeves’ Gala Fundraiser, “Furry Tails Can Come True,” on Tuesday, September 20, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

“It is so gratifying to see such love of animals and concern for their welfare,”
said Janine Dion, founder and president of Pet Peeves, referring to Eliana and Monet. “We are delighted to present them with these awards, which they wholeheartedly deserve.”

Eliana Tilles, 14, designed the centerpieces for her Bat Mitzvah – baskets filled with dog treats, accessories, and toys – and donated all 22 of them to Pet Peeves, who distributed them to local animal shelters. Miss Tilles’ invitations contained specific requests for pet-oriented donations to be brought to the Bat Mitzvah. Her guests complied, bearing blankets and toys earmarked for those shelters.

Monet Lee, also 14, has been a volunteer at Pet Peeves since the age of 11, working alongside her mother, Arlene, who is a Pet Peeves Board Member. Miss Lee has stuffed envelopes, wrapped raffles, painted faces, and worked at every one of the organization’s fund-raisers. At her Bat Mitzvah she pledged $1,000 of her gift money to Pet Peeves, helping to further their efforts to assist needy animals.

The Gala Fundraiser “Furry Tails Can Come True III” is open to the public. Animal lovers and corporate networkers are encouraged to attend. The event is sponsored in part by the Roslyn Savings Foundation. Among the festivities, there will be raffles and auctions, and a delicious buffet dinner, as well as an open bar.

Tickets are $90 per person, with all proceeds going to abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in Nassau and Suffolk. They should be purchased online in advance at www.petpeevesinc.org or requested by email at Janine@petpeevesinc.org or by phone at 516-692-8000.
