Woodbury, NY – March 2007 – The partnership between
Pet Peeves and Citibank in a food drive for pets has proven
to be a boon for hungry animals. The drive netted over 750
lbs of dog and cat food which was promptly distributed to animal
rescue shelters on Long Island.
“We were thrilled to see such cooperation from the local
community,” says Pet Peeves’ founder and President
Janine Dion. “While Citibank provided the space at their
Garden City branches for pet food receptacles, it was up to
animal lovers in the area to provide the donations….and
that they did most generously.” Aiding the effort were
students from Garden City High School, who helped collect the
food, and Petco in Syosset. Freeport Animal Rescue and
Last Hope Animal Rescue in Huntington were the primary recipients
of the collected food donations.
It is a well known fact that the proliferation of abused,
neglected and unwanted animals on Long Island has risen in
the last several years, causing more shelters to seek help
in caring for these helpless creatures. The cost of food is
a major expenditure. Pet Peeves hopes to continue this food
drive in other communities in the near future to help these
shelters defray the cost of feeding the animals they take in.
Pet Peeves is a 501c3 umbrella organization comprised
of volunteers dedicated to raising funds to support no-kill
shelters, animal rescue groups, humane
education and pet therapy initiatives. Their 5th annual fundraising
event, “Furry Tails Can Come True” will be held
this year on October 3rd at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
The event is open to all. Corporate and individual sponsors
are welcome. Visit www.petpeeves.org or
call 516.692.PETS to learn how you can contribute to “Furry
Tails Can Come True” and make a difference in the lives
of many of these vulnerable creatures.
