DOG FRIENDLY PARKS ON LONG ISLAND

With spring in the air, we obtained updated information on New York State and County Parks where we can let our beloved animals play and exercise. We hope the following locations and guidelines will be helpful in getting everyone out and about.

New York State Parks: (Telephone number: 518-474-0456)

• Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center

New York State policy is that dogs are allowed in “underdeveloped area (e.g. trails, no active recreation) of certain parks” with guidelines such as leashed not more than 6’, not in camping, bathing, picnic, walkways or building areas.

Dogs are allowed in dog runs in the following parks:

• Nassau Beach, Lido Beach (Tel: 571-7700)
• Wantagh Park (Tel: 571-7460)

The website indicates that pets are welcome in the parks! Owners are asked to follow guidelines: leashed not more than 6’, clean up waste, no access in bathing areas, ID tags and proof of rabis, inoculation, registration in camping areas and not being a nuisance.
