January 12, 2004 -- Janine Dion, president and
founder of Pet Peeves, Inc.,"The Voice for Long Island
Pets," is pleased to announce that through the generosity
of Cablevision, the non-profit will be airing public service
announcements (PSAs) throughout the month of January 2004.
The televised message features Pet Peeves Board member, Laurie
Bloom, and Francis, a Siamese cat rescued from a local shelter,
and includes images of board members as well as adopted pets.
"Cablevision's support is tremendous,"
remarked Pet Peeves' founder Janine Dion. "Their generosity
will enable us to bring Pet Peeves' message to households
we might never have had the opportunity to reach," "We
are very grateful to the folks at Cablevision, especially
Joan Hendricks, Cablevision's Area Director for Political
& Community Affairs, for understanding the need and for
their commitment to Long Island's abused, abandoned and neglected
pets," Dion added.
The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness
of the year-old organization and to educate the public about
the increasing need for support of Long Island's animals in
need. While Pet Peeves is not a rescue group, its mission
does includes support of rescue organizations and "no-kill"
shelters, as well as humane education, and therapy programs
utilizing animals.
The PSAs will air cross-channel 375 times from
January 1 through January 31 on a variety of cable networks
reaching more than 793,000 householdsand businesses in Nassau
and Suffolk Counties. The subsequent outreach afforded Pet
Peeves, a not-for-profit charity would have ordinarily been
well beyond the grass roots organization's financial reach.
"We hope that those who see the spots will
want to get involved," said Laurie Bloom. "There
is so much to be done and we are delighted to receive any
help that we can. Be it money, time, or donated pet food,
products or services, every bit helps," she concluded.
What makes Pet Peeves especially unique is
that it is is comprised solely of volunteers. With no overhead
costs for facilities or salaries, all of the proceeds go
directly toward helping animals in need. Pet Peeves is proud
to count among its many supporters veterinarians, educators,
and numerous business executives. All of whom donate their
time and their talent to make a difference for animals in
need.
